Dr. Richard H. Buss Jr.

Richard H. Buss Jr. is a research astronomer in the study of the Galactic Medium --- the gas and solid grains of matter in space that eventually form into solar systems. For Astro-2, Buss is interested in observing the evolution of molecular hydrogen and hydrocarbon molecules, having published previous papers on these subjects. This work includes analysis from the Astro-1 Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope, a project that he joined in 1991 at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he and his wife, Mary, currently reside.

Buss has worked previously at NASA Ames, NASA JPL, and NASA Goddard Space Centers and is continuing to work with both NASA Marshall and NASA Kennedy Space Centers for Astro-2 on the Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope! During this time, he has published several papers. Richard received his Ph.D. in astrophysics from the University of Colorado in 1988 and a B.S. in physics from Johns Hopkins University in 1982, having lived in various parts of the United States after his birth in California in 1960.
